- L'aparició esporàdica en pantalla de la feina original del fotògraf, el William Eugene Smith.

PITJOR:
- Les llicències artístiques, com l'establiment de l'inici de la relació de la parella que interpreten el Johnny Depp i la Minami Bages, el suborn del president de la Chisso Corporation al fotògraf o la crema de la cambra fosca de l'artista.

COMENTARI: No aconsegueixo trobar-li el què a la pel·lícula. Per un costat, està el personatge central i la deriva existencial d'aquest vell cardat. Aquí, el Johnny Depp frega el patetisme amb el seu retrat histriònic. És a dir, no conec la figura real del fotoperiodista en qüestió mes l'actor no l'afavoreix gens. I per l'altra banda, tenim l'assumpte de la contaminació sistemàtica perpetrada per la corporació infame durant tant de temps de manera impune; quelcom que esparvera i indigna a parts iguals, és digne d'atenció, sense dubte, de denúncia i, sobretot, de condemna. La falla, potser, és a l'hora d'equiparar la dimensió personal i professional que aparenta el paio amb la magnitud de la tragèdia que pateixen els vilatans de l'indret i la seva lluita escarrassada contra Goliat. D'alguna manera, tot plegat sembla descompensat.

EN UN MOT: Disminuïda.
